No matter how the lamestream media tries to spin it, today’s mid-term election is a referendum on the Obama administration and the Democratic-controlled Congress. And it looks like a clear vote of no confidence.

Having trouble processing the message that the American people are trying to deliver with their votes, the sore losers are advancing  bogus explanations for the stunning turn-around in their fortunes.

1. The American people are just plain stupid.

Here is what the unfunny snob HBO “Real Time” host Bill Maher said last week:

We have Democrats for one reason – to drag the ignorant hillbilly-half of this country into the next century, which in their case is the 19th

I’ll tell you this about Americans – about the American electorate, the voter. They love a winner. You know, as soon as he passed health care, [his approval rating] went up 15 points. They don’t understand the issues. They’re too stupid. They’re like a dog. They can understand inflection. They can understand fear. They can understand dominance. They don’t understand issues. But when he won on that issue, he went up.

Maher is actually too stupid himself to understand how to read a poll. The American people saw right through the 2000 plus Obamacare bill that virtually nobody in Congress read before ramming it through. The American people are less interested in winning for winning’s sake than winning for common sense’s sake.

Obama signed his pet health care bill on March 23, 2010.  In two Gallup polls taken between March 1st to 3rd and March 18th to 21st, 2010, Obama’s approval rating stood at 50. In two Gallup polls taken between April 1st to 3rd and April 22nd to 24th, 2010, Obama’s approval ratings stood at 48 and 50 respectively. It then went down to 47 in the Gallup poll taken between April 30th and May 2nd.

2. The American people were manipulated by the racist far right, particularly Fox News.

Here is former President Jimmy Carter’s take on the situation, conveniently forgetting that he too had been repudiated by the American people thirty years ago because of his own dismal record.

With the discussion groups, for instance, on Fox News, that are totally biased, and they implant completely false images not only of the facts about legislation that’s passed, or doesn’t get passed, but also about the character of President Obama. And they have been successful in projecting him as a person who is not a citizen of America, who is not a Christian, but a Muslim, and is not a Democrat, but he’s a socialist, and so forth. And those seeds that are planted every day that they broadcast by the discussion, in the discussion groups, have found a harvest place in the minds of a lot of Americans. So I think they have completely twisted around what he has done, what he has accomplished, and his own personal character to his detriment.

While some opinion show hosts on Fox News such as Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity have said that Obama has followed socialist policies, with plenty of evidence to back up their assertions, the rest of Carter’s ramblings about Fox News are nonsense. Whether Obama’s place of birth or religious beliefs are legitimate issues or not, they have not been the basis for Fox News’ criticisms of Obama. It’s his policies, statements and appointments that have concerned Fox and many Americans.

ACORN is out in the field in Pennsylvania doing all it can to help elect Democrats, including Senate candidate Joe Sestak. Sestak is the lawmaker that President Obama allegedly offered a quid pro quo to in exchange for support for ObamaCare.

As I wrote at the Daily Caller:

Cemeteries in Pennsylvania may be hotbeds of political activity in the next few days because the zombie group ACORN is deeply involved in congressional races in the state.

The undead group is working to help get Pennsylvania Senate candidate Joe Sestak and other Democratic hopefuls in the Keystone State across the finish line in the Nov. 2 congressional elections. That means that dead people and cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse stand a good chance of participating in the electorcal process this year as they always do when election fraud-prone ACORN is involved.

ACORN is using its two “rebranded” entities in the Keystone State to mobilize Democratic voters. I talked about this scam on Fox Business last week:

The two tax-exempt affiliates are Pennsylvania Neighborhoods for Social Justice (PNSJ) and Action United. Both nonprofits incorporated in January. According to those documents, both organizations operate out of ACORN’s offices at 846 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. ACORN veterans dominate both groups.

The two “new ACORN groups have been very active in the current election cycle.

For example, on Oct. 20, before a candidates’ debate, Action United loudly protested Republican Senate hopeful Pat Toomey’s support for Social Security reform. The demonstration took place outside Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center before the Toomey-Sestak debate got underway.

Pat Worrell of Action United said Pennsylvanians oppose Toomey’s “reckless proposal to let taxpayers have greater control over their retirement plans. Worrell was chairwoman of ACORN’s chapter in Chester, Penn.

Inside ACORN sources say PNSJ has been conducting a get-out-the-drive drive exclusively in Democratic strongholds, including public housing facilities.

Project Vote, ACORN’s still operating vote manufacturing division, confirmed it was working with the rebranded front group as a “partner organizationâ€ on its website until a few days ago when Human Events Online reported news of the relationship.

Project Vote then attempted to cover up the fact it was working with PNSJ by scrubbing the reference to the group on the partner organizations page on its website. That page no longer mentions PNSJ but a screen grab of the page made by this writer a month ago clearly shows the group’s name. Such cover-ups are standard operating procedure at ACORN, which until earlier this year was the nation’s largest poor people’s organization, boasting a national membership of 400,000.

What? Did you expect honesty from ACORN?

Editor’s note: A group of citizen watchdog groups in Minnesota have implemented a program called Election Integrity Watch. Part of the initiative involves wearing buttons to the polls which say “Please ID Me” and presenting photo identification as a silent protest in advocacy of legislation requiring photo identification to vote. In the final days leading up to the election. A handful of state and county election officials banned the buttons, along with any apparel referencing the Tea Party. The groups co-sponsoring Election Integrity Watch filed a lawsuit challenging the ban. The case was heard Monday. The following is addressed to Minnesota voters.

When you head to the polls today, rest assured that your determination to vote for the candidate of your choice will not be derailed by the “intimidating” presence of a button on someone’s shirt reading “Please ID Me.” You will not be lulled into a deep state of hypnosis, and compelled to vote against your intent, upon gazing at a t-shirt promoting Tea Party Patriots.

There are two reasons for this. One, you are an intelligent self-determining individual able to hold your course despite others’ apparel. Two, on Monday, a U.S. district court judge ruled in favor of restricting such apparel.

U.S. District Judge Joan Ericksen said Monday that the items could be viewed as political, and that the polling place is supposed to be a place of “peace, order and decorum.” If anything, she said, the buttons are designed to affect the actual voting process — by suggesting voters are required to show ID.

“This intimation could confuse voters and election officials and cause voters to refrain from voting because of increased delays or the misapprehension that identification is required,” Ericksen explained in a written order shortly after issuing her ruling in court.

…

Attorneys for election officials noted two of the candidates on the ballot — gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer and secretary of state candidate Dan Severson — have made photo identification of voters a campaign issue. They also noted that U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann founded a tea party caucus in Congress.

The right to vote comes with the responsibility to be aware of the law. Anyone who would be “intimidated by a button saying “Please ID Me lacks competence.

More to the point, as Judge Erickson acknowledged herself in a joke suggesting voters wear “voting suits… which repel political speech, the goal election officials are trying to achieve here is subjective and fundamentally misguided. The specific requirement in state statue to not wear campaign material on behalf of a candidate or ballot question is a standard which makes sense. Removing that standard and banning anything that conveys an opinion is an attack upon free speech. This idea that voters need to cast their ballot in a hyperbaric chamber, lest their dainty constitutions be overwhelmed by the slightest influence, is an insult to their maturity and intelligence.

The argument that Tom Emmer and Dan Severson support photo ID, and therefore advocating that issue is the same as campaigning for them, denies voters ownership of their ideas. Are we really saying that, if a candidate expresses an idea, they somehow copyright it? I no longer have the right to express the same idea without the assumption that I support that candidate? What if there where two pro-life candidates in a race and I wore a pro-life shirt into the polls? Which would I be “campaigning for? What if it was just a shirt with a picture of a baby on it? Where is the subjective line drawn?

Minnesota Majority, North Star Tea Party Patriots, and the Minnesota Voter’s Alliance have advised their members of the ruling and the options available to them. Those determined to wear Election Integrity Watch or Tea Party apparel will have the choice, upon being advised by election judges to cover up or remove the apparel, to comply or risk being charged with a petty misdemeanor. The charge could bring a fine up to $300. Either way, no one will be denied the right to vote.

Ever since MSNBC (I call it MSDNC) host Chris Matthews decided that Mr. Obama “gave him a thrill up his leg, it’s been hard to take much of what he says seriously. However, even broken clocks are right twice a day, and it seems that Mr. Tingles got one right.  He had the courage and integrity to call Arianna Huffington out on her hate-fest, that really boiled down to a rock concert, attended mostly by astroturfers who Ms. Huffington herself paid to bus to the event.

Here’s a juicy little snippet of the exchange, in which Ms. Huffington says “Go ahead and make fun of me, to which Mr. Tingles replies “I am.

First, I am all for people getting together, in a grassroots, ground up fashion, to speak out against their government. However, I do have a tremendous opposition to hypocrisy, and the Colbert-Stewart “Conservatives are Stupid gathering seemed to operate on several hypocritical levels.

First, I thought we weren’t supposed to call people “Nazis, or carry signs that indicated someone was likened to “Hitler. Well, apparently it’s okay when the left does it because here they are:

And here’s “Smugapalooza – Video by Americans For Prosperity.

Hey, wasn’t this supposed to be about everyone being kind, sane, and unified for our country? Doesn’t look that way to me, when so many of the signs call Conservatives “Teabaggers and “Stupid or “Illiterate. But, of course, smug is what the left does best.

Here is Reason TV’s “What We Saw At The Restoring Sanity Rally

Smug is pretty euphemistic for this crowd, but early on you may notice the woman who claims “there are no Hitler signs at her rally – did she miss the Beck and Palin-as-Hitler signs? When asked if it was “OK for the left to carry Bush-as-Hitler signs, the same woman admits that in her opinion that was “okay. Hmmm… no double standard to see here, I guess, move along, move along.

As a reminder, this is how the Left treated President Bush (oh and notice the misspelling – I thought only Conservatives were stupid):

Then again, I guess this is what the left calls “sanity. For an entire history of the Kill Bush rallies, please go here.  Then ask yourself where the Left gets off calling people “Teabaggers and getting “horrified and “outraged at the “racists who carry signs about Obama.

Of course the “elitist left is SO much more classy than the “Teabaggers – as evidenced by this great sign!

And this gem…

Or this one…You know, because the progressive elite are SO much better and brighter than everyone else. At least she wants to kill me in a “nice way. Thanks for that!

I could post these pics all day, but you get the point. So, let’s do a recap, shall we? The Beck Restoring Honor rally had NO signs allowed, NO free rock concerts, free bus rides, and drew hundreds of thousands of God and America loving patriots, who had to pay their own way to get to DC to pray for the state of our country, and join hands in unity.

On the other hand, “Smugapalooza seemed to confirm only one thing…Sheer hypocrisy and hate from the elitist Left.

Now, if we want to discuss Mr. Tingles being right about this one…I think he caught Ms. Huffington in the crosshairs. It wasn’t “sane and it certainly didn’t accomplish much. Mr. Tingles, you have my agreement for once.

Call me narrowly partisan, call me a flaming fanatic–actually, I am neither–but given what I know, there is simply no way that I can vote for any American candidate who supports President Obama’s position on Israel or on the Islamic world. I am thinking of Obama’s low bow to King Abdullah, his maiden-voyage speech in Cairo, his 2010 public shaming of the Israeli delegation at the White House, going so far as having refused to feed them or to pose with them for photos—but of course, there is more, so much more. Doing absolutely nothing to stop Iran or to help Iranian dissidents is among the next 50 important issues that our president has either not grasped or has, indeed, handled as if he truly is either an empty suit or a Muslim Manchurian candidate. Or both.

I am not talking about his race. I am talking about his administration’s policies.

Obama’s administration has also invited “J Street, a Soros-funded anti-Israel lobby, into its inner circle as a “pro-Israel group; suggested that Israel has been the cause of American military deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq; demanded that Israel stop building on sovereign Israeli soil; and has refused to say that Israel is, indeed, a Jewish state.

America’s foreign policy in terms of both Israel and the Muslim world is a matter of the most profound national and international security, and the fact that I may not agree with conservatives or Republicans on certain issues is of lesser importance at this moment in history. All our precious and hard-won universal human rights, including women’s rights, will remain tattered pieces of paper if the pro-Islamist and anti-Israel agenda triumphs. Sadly, under Obama’s reign, this is well underway.

Further: Scapegoating Israel for the crimes of Muslim regimes will not help Muslim citizens who yearn to live free of terrorism and barbaric tyranny nor will it help Muslim and ex-Muslim dissidents or infidels who are being savagely persecuted, exiled, murdered, blown up by Islamists in Muslim and Hindu countries. Islamic religious apartheid is real and growing. Israel is not an apartheid country—but both Islamic gender and religious apartheid are real apartheid practices.

President Obama has yet to suggest that he realizes this.

To hear it told, the 2010 election stands to be one of the most historic in recent memory. And it’s likely true. Two years after Barack Obama promised “hope and change, we’ve seen just how little hope that failed change has brought us. Four years after the Democrats launched a charge against a lackluster Republican Congress, we’ve seen that all a Democratic-led Congress seems to be able to do these days is spend money. And people are angry, fed up, and ready for something new.

The Tea Party movement has been a bracing force this election season, along with a general anti-incumbent mood. Many in Congress who once felt complacent are fighting tooth and nail to keep their seat, while others didn’t even make it out of the primaries. The winds of change are aloft in this country in a way that hasn’t been seen in generations, possibly ever. And that’s going to make today a fascinating Election Day, not to mention all the fallout afterward.

With all that said, I present to you eight national races. Six of them are Senate races with obvious national implications. For good measure, I’ve thrown in two House races that aren’t necessarily of any major national consequence, but they make statements: one about the 2008 election and the Democrat sweep that went along with it, the other about what the Democratic Party may mean to a particular region.

Please note that I am not endorsing any particular candidate in any of these races. My intention is not to promote one candidate or another. Instead, I’m here to point out what is interesting about these races. I also don’t presume that these are the only races that are important. There are plenty of things to talk about this election cycle, and, given time, I could’ve easily doubled or tripled this list. This post is intended to be nothing more than a sampling of fascinating contests.

So, sit back and enjoy the ride! First, you’ll see the Senate races in alphabetical order by state, followed by the House races.
